South Korean company Samsung launched its new line of smartwatches this Wednesday (10). The Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra offer for the first time the possibility of detecting signs of potential sleep apnea, in addition to functions already known from previous versions, such as monitoring physical activities (weight training, running, among others), sleep and body composition.
The device’s sleep apnea detection has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is not yet known whether the function will be available in Brazil.
Another new feature on the watches is the monitoring of advanced glycation end products with the AGE index. According to Samsung, monitoring this parameter reflects the biological aging process and provides an indication of metabolic health.
The Galaxy7, the simplest model presented this Wednesday, will be available in sizes 40 mm (in green and cream) and 44 mm (in green and silver)
Galaxy Watch Ultra
The company has unveiled its most advanced smartwatch to date: the Galaxy Watch Ultra. With a more robust construction than previous models, the Ultra promises to monitor physical activity and health parameters in extreme environments: from 500 meters below sea level to 9,000 meters above sea level.
The highly durable watch will come in a single size: 47 mm, in Titanium Gray, Titanium White and Titanium Silver.
The watches presented will be the first Android smartwatches to be equipped with the Wear OS 5 operating system.
Galaxy Ring
The Galaxy Ring smart ring with artificial intelligence (AI) was also launched on Wednesday. The device’s battery promises to last up to seven full days. The new product is now available for pre-order.
During the presentation of the Galaxy Ring, Matthew Wiggins, head of Digital Health Samsung Research, explained that the new accessory from the South Korean company will work by applying AI to enhance the data collected to provide more complete guidance that helps the user have a healthier routine.
“We’re putting the ability to control your health in your hands. It’s simple, effective and easy to use,” Wiggins explained.
The new ring will be available in three different colors (Titanium Black, Titanium Silver and Titanium Gold), with nine different sizes and water resistance capable of withstanding diving up to 100 meters deep. It will also feature the Energy Score, a tool powered by Galaxy AI that offers recommendations on what to focus on during the day and wellness tips based on the health data collected, such as heart rate and sleep quality.
Like the other devices launched this Wednesday (Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra, Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6), the ring will be equipped with Galaxy AI, Samsung’s artificial intelligence tool. The technology, launched in January, is already available to 66% of users of the Galaxy S24 models and should be integrated into the entire family of products from the South Korean company.
The new releases are now available for pre-sale and will be available to the public from July 24th. The prices of the new products have not been disclosed by Samsung.
