Samsung Seeks Four US Locations for $ 17 Billion Semiconductor Manufacturing

Samsung Electronics is considering two sites in Arizona and another in New York, in addition to the Austin, Texas site, as the site for a new chip factory. The production cost is $ 17 billion. This information is contained in documents filed with Texas officials.

The documents, dated February 26, also suggest that the manufacturer will receive approximately $ 1.48 billion in tax breaks from Travis County and the City of Austin over 20 years. This is more than the previously announced amount of $ 805.5 million.

The documents say Samsung is also in talks in Arizona and New York. In each case, the state is offering property tax cuts and “significant grants and / or refundable tax credits” to fund infrastructure improvements.

The plant, which Samsung plans to build, will produce “advanced logic chips” on a contract basis and could create 1,800 jobs. The source recalls that Samsung is making chips for customers such as Tesla, Qualcomm and Nvidia.
