Santa Claus is gay, the Norwegian post ad

What if Santa is gay? The TV commercial of Posten, the Norwegian post office, made for Christmas tells a little romantic story which has already gone viral around the world. Harry is a lonely-looking 50-year-old Norwegian, even though he is surrounded by a loving family. The other protagonist of the short is none other than Santa Claus.

From year to year, the two men, the night between 24 and 25 December, always know each other a little better, until they fall in love. When, for a few minutes, they meet, they joke and drink hot chocolate. The problem is that Santa can visit only one day a year Harry. Who, in the end, takes courage, decides to reveal her love to him and sends him a postcard to the North Pole, with the words: “All I want for Christmas is you».

The following year, Harry’s wish comes true: Santa asks Posten for help delivering Christmas presents (it’s still an advertisement), so that he can spend more time with Harry. And it is on that occasion that, finally, the two share a kiss.

The commercial, which lasts four minutes and is called “When Harry met Santa”, aims to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Norway (which will fall next year), and ends with the sentence: «In 2022, in Norway we have been able to love whoever we want for 50 years».

“Posten is an inclusive workplace, and we would like to celebrate the 50th anniversary with this beautiful love story,” he explained to LGBTQ Nation Monica Solberg, Marketing Director of Posten.

According to Jimmy Westerheim, who created the Norwegian foundation The Human Aspect, that of Posten is «lthe most important advertising of recent decades“. “Santa Claus can love anyone he wants. Thanks to Posten for doing what many others should have done a long time ago! ‘ And the husband of the actor who plays Harry (Johan Ehn), writer Mats Strandberg, tweeted that has been shared dozens of times: “This is my husband kissing Santa!”
