São Paulo is among the top 50 destinations in the world to visit in 2022

São Paulo is among the 50 best cities in the world to visit in 2022, according to the choice of the editors of “Travel+Leisure”, renowned North American magazine specializing in tourism. Along the Galapagos Islands, belonging to Ecuador, the city of more than 12 million inhabitants is the only one in the South America to appear in the list.

The publication highlights São Paulo as a center of art and culture, which highlights its dynamic side that combines luxury, design and fashion. “With airlines adding flights across Brazil in 2022 and a thriving renaissance of citywide hospitality, São Paulo is well-prepared for the influx of new travelers,” writes journalist Molly O’Brien.

Opened in December, the luxury hotel Rosewood Sao Paulo is considered a must-see destination in the city. Housed in a historic building in the Matarazzo City, in the Bela Vista district, the hotel has more than 160 rooms, suites and residences, as well as bars, six restaurants and two swimming pools.

List Highlights

Alphabetically organized, the list released in December it does not follow a hierarchy and was designed based on the moment the world is going through – with the flexibilization of borders and new regulations in face of the variations of the Covid-19.

“Many of the destinations we’ve chosen for 2022 offer what we believe travelers are looking for in a post-pandemic world, from hotels with private accommodations to destinations filled with outdoor activities,” explains the publication.

Among the 50 destinations, some are better known, such as Las Vegas, the complex of Disney in Orlando, in Florida, the islands Maldives it’s at Greece.

Others are places less known to the general public, but equally fascinating, such as Ilha Caldeira, in Mozambique; Kafue National Park in Zambia; Kaunas, second largest city in Lithuania and the Japanese island of Kyushu.

Doha, capital do Qatar, country that will host the games of 2022 World Cup, also appears among the best destinations to visit next year. The publication emphasizes the futuristic feel of the city and highlights the Museum of Islamic Art and the Damasca One, comfort food, and Em Sherif, a rooftop that serves regional cuisine.

Most beautiful destinations in the world

This month, the magazine also released a list in which it chooses the 55 most beautiful destinations in the world, focusing on national parks, mountains, beaches, deserts and other natural wonders.

Among the choices, two of them are Brazilian: the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha and as waterfalls of Iguaçu. Noronha, belonging to the state of Pernambuco, was highlighted as a “carefully preserved site offering secluded beaches and crystal clear waters abundant with marine life”.

The Falls, on the border between Brazil and Argentina, are formed by 275 waterfalls and entered the list with an emphasis on the “magnificence” of their sounds and energy brought by the water.

Other relevant destinations around the world are part of the selection, such as Machu Picchu, in Peru, the Glen Coe Valley, in Scotland (set of recordings of the series “Outlander”), Lake Como, Italy (backdrop for the recordings of the movie “Casa Gucci”) and Big Sur, a coastal region of California that has one of the most photographed roads in the world.
