SC City decrees emergency after cases of dengue and chikungunya

The city of Xanxerê, a municipality located in the western region of Santa Catarina, decreed emergency due to the epidemiological risk caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

The city has already recorded 568 probable cases of chikungunya and 744 cases of dengue, 107 positive cases of chikungunya and 5 positive cases of dengue, both indigenous, ie contracted within the municipality.

The decree, signed by the mayor of the city, Oscar Martarello (PL), last Monday (17), highlighted the need for implementation of prevention and combat measures to Aedes aegypti. The provision has 180 days.

According to the municipal administration, the city has adopted measures for the combat and eradication of chikungunya. Among them:

  • Care and treatment of symptomatic people;
  • Medication supply;
  • expansion of work teams;
  • awareness campaigns;
  • cleaning efforts in neighborhoods with the largest number of outbreaks;
  • Blocking of transmission of suspicious cases;
  • Application of peridomiciliary insecticide in homes that had cases of the disease;
  • Distribution of repellents in homes that recorded suspicious cases;
  • Fumigation of approximately 4500 mouths of wolf;
  • UBV application, known as smoke, residences and nearby where there are confirmed cases.
