Seehofer supports Poland in immigration

German Interior Minister H. Zeehofer encourages Warsaw and justifies a fence and pushback. Calls on the Commission to help Poland while praising Turkey

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer is asking for EU support for Poland in dealing with the situation on the country’s border with Belarus. “We have to help the Polish government secure its external borders,” he told the Bild newspaper. At the same time, he emphasized that this was primarily the task of the Commission and called on it to take action in this direction. Mr Seehofer accuses the Belarussian regime of using “immigrants” to destabilize the West with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to a statement from the Polish government, 3,000-4,000 people have gathered near the Polish border in recent days. In recent months, thousands of people have crossed the border into Poland. This year, almost 9,000 people have come to Germany from Belarus, via Poland. Hence the German interest in what is happening on the Polish border.

The construction of a fence

Regarding the construction of a fence by Poland on its border with Belarus, Horst Seehofer applauds its construction and asks for public support from the EU member states. “We can not criticize it because it protects with authorized means the “the EU ‘s external borders,” he said.

Among the permitted means, the German Minister of the Interior includes pushbacks, the repatriation of immigrants by Polish security forces. “Of course,” he points out, “not with the use of weapons, but with other means that are also available.” According to Seehofer, “the Poles have undertaken an important service for the whole of Europe, as has Turkey, which, with the reception of more than three million refugees, is pursuing a refugee policy that favors Europe.”
