It is now well known that the pandemic has accelerated various digitalization phenomena, but how has this wave of innovation been experienced by different generations?
According to one research carried out by ShopFully, an Italian tech company that connects 30 million online consumers to 250 thousand shops around them, the post-pandemic digitization has involved the Italian population in a transversal manner, recording an increase also by the over 50 age group, increasingly connected and digital: over 45% of respondents to the research say that following the pandemic, their relationship with technology has changed, increasing the use of smartphones, PCs or both.
The data is also confirmed by an even more specific research commissioned to YouGov by Readly, the digital subscription service that allows unlimited access to about 5000 magazines through a single app, to investigate how the digital habits of over 60s have changed in the last year and a half.
60% of Italians over 60 confirmed that their lifestyle has become more digital in the months of lockdown. Technology is therefore no longer the prerogative of the new generations, quite the contrary.
In order, “our” over-sixties have dedicated themselves more in the last year and a half to video calls (34%), allo shopping online (28%), to the vision of film in streaming (21%) and to digital reading of books, magazines and newspapers (19%).
In this age group, moreover, 63% of the interviewees believes that their lifestyle will continue to be increasingly digital even after Covid.
If compared to the responses of respondents in other countries where the survey was carried out, Italians over 60 are by far those who during the pandemic more “digitized” their habits, against 48% of Swedes, 44% of British, 40% of Dutch, 38% of Australians, 39% of Americans, 25% of Germans.
“The pandemic has brought with it curiosity and knowledge about how the digital world can bring us closer to each other, optimize our well-being and facilitate everyday life”, he comments Marie Sophie Von BIbra, head of growth di Readly per l’Italia.
Here is a roundup of perfect devices – and some very useful ones – for those who have passed the «door».
