SEPE officials ask Labor for reinforcements due to the avalanche of ERTE in the last two weeks

Officials from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), the body that processes unemployment benefits and those affected by temporary employment regulation files (ERTE) have been overcome by the avalanche of ERTE presented in the last two weeks and request reinforcements from the Ministry of Labor.

The CSIF union today released a statement in which they indicate that since the end of October the number of ERTEs presented by the companies amounts to 150,000, in response to the administrative measures launched by the administrations to stop the second wave of infections. The files presented would affect 750,000 workers, which would be the the biggest rebound recorded since the pandemic forced the economy to hibernate in April.

Specifically, the union demands “the immediate publication of an extraordinary Public Employment Offer for the SEPE and a sufficient endowment of human, structural and professional resources before the social emergency situation due to COVID19 and economic and labor market forecasts “.

Since the first state of alarm was declared last March, the SEPE has been a body overwhelmed by demand for benefits associated with closures for causes related to the coronavirus. The first avalanche of benefits reached 3.4 million workers and took months to be absorbed by the body belonging to Labor and led to the delay in the payment of benefits and emergency support offered by other government bodies.

To the ordinary benefits provided by the agency, such as unemployment and subsidies for those who have already lost the right to collect unemployment, are added others deployed by the Government to face the crisis, such as ERTE or the new subsidy for the unemployed who lost their income during the first alarm state. The volume of work is higher than the processing capacity of the 8,000 officials of the agency, according to CSIF and “is aggravating the situation of oversaturation of the workforce and affects the delay in the payment of benefits” that affect thousands of people.
