SEVE: Meeting of productive bodies for the creation of a commercial center in Thessaloniki

In the context of the visit of the Saudi Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mr. Mohammed Bin Salman to Athens last July, interest was expressed in the creation of a commercial center in Greece.

The President of SEVE, Mr. Symeon Diamantidis, who participated in this visit, proposed that this center be located in Thessaloniki in order to become a gateway for Saudi Arabian products and raw materials in Europe. Following his proposal, Mr. Diamantidis convened today 29.08.2022 a meeting at SEVE’s offices to discuss the matter in question.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of the Interior responsible for Macedonia-Thrace issues, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis and the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Mr. Apostolos Tzitzikostas (online) and (in person) the representatives of the city’s productive bodies, the Vice-President of EBET, Mr. Manolis Vlachogiannis, the President of BETH, Mr. Anastasios Kapnopolis, the President of SBE, Mr. Athanasios Savvakis, the President of TEE/Central Macedonia Department, Mr. Georgios Tsakoumis, the President of ESTH, Mr. Pantelis Filippidis, the President of OEE/ Regional Department of Central Macedonia, Mr. Vassilis Georgiadis, the General Secretary of EETH, Mr. Kleoboulos Theotokis and the Executive Vice President of SEVE, Mr. Panagiotis Hasapis. The President and CEO of Samaras & Associates, Mr. Dimitris Samaras, also participated as a technical advisor to SEVE.

The productive entities pointed out that the city of Thessaloniki, and especially its western side where there are suitable spaces, meets all the criteria and is the most suitable location to create the freight center. In fact, they agreed that this is a strategic project that will contribute significantly to the economic development of Thessaloniki and the whole of Northern Greece.

Finally, it was decided to submit the unanimous proposal to the Prime Minister during his visit to Thessaloniki in the context of the 86th TEF.
