At least seven soldiers of its government forces Yemeni killed and eight others injured on Friday after a bomb exploded in Abyan province, a local official told Xinhua.
THE bomb attack attributed to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula jihadists.
According to the same official, who is not being named, “the explosion occurred at a time when the soldiers had gathered to receive food supplies”.
Jihadists have been launching sporadic attacks against government forces in mountainous areas of Abyan and neighboring provinces.
Al Qaeda’s network in the Arabian Peninsula has taken advantage of the years-long conflict between the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels – backed by Iran – to consolidate its presence in the war-torn country.
