Shanghai reopens part of its public transport, but remains on alert for Covid-19

The city of Shanghai reopened a small part of the world’s largest subway system on Sunday, after some lines were closed for nearly two months, as the city paved the way for further relief from its painful lockdown against Covid-19 next week.

As most residents are unable to leave their homes, and restrictions are being tightened in parts of the most populous city in China passengers needed strong reasons to get around this Sunday.

THE lockdown Shanghai and restrictions in other cities hampered consumption, industrial production and other sectors of the Chinese economy in recent months, leading to pledges of support from politicians.

Many who ventured outside at the commercial hub wore blue protective clothing and face shields. Inside the carriages, passengers were seen keeping empty seats between them, but there were few people.
