Shanghai: What happens to pandemic numbers – 17 dead from coronavirus

Authorities in the Chinese financial capital, the Shanghaiannounced today seven more deaths of patients due to complications of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, equal to the previous, development that increased to 17 the total number of victims of the current wave of the new coronavirus pandemic in the metropolis of 25 million inhabitants.

The toll, however, remains remarkably low in the vast urban center, where around 20,000 new SARS-CoV-2 cases are confirmed daily.

It was also announced today that 2,494 symptomatic infections and 16,407 asymptomatic infections were confirmed. 390 cases were detected outside the Shanghai areas which are in indefinite lockdown.

Since the outbreak of the new coronavirus, which was identified in central China in late 2019, Beijing has managed – at least according to official data – to keep the death toll below 5,000 dead and the number of infections around 200,000 in total.

These numbers, dramatically lower than those reported internationally, are generally considered to be very undervalued.as broadcast by Reuters and rebroadcast by the Athenian News Agency.

The Chinese financial capital, however, has now become the scene of the Asian giants’ most serious outbreak since the health crisis began.
