A woman has spoken of the shocking moment she spotted her husband marrying someone else on the page Facebook of the luxury Holiday Inn hotel.
Hayley Brown, 36, married electrician Mark Rowlands in 2012 after love at first sight. The couple have two children together, and have been estranged for many years, but never legally separated.
The 36-year-old, who is Rowlands’ second wife, thought she would never see him again – until a friend sent her a suspension from social media and specifically from the page Facebook of hotelu Holiday Inn – which featured a photo of Mark marrying another woman.
“It fell to methe jaw”he said as reported by the Manchester Evening News. “He was still married to me! DI couldn’t believe it. It was funny to see him marry someone else, but I was over him now. Even so, I knew this was wrong and I had to report him.”
Hayley made a police report and Rowlands pleaded guilty at Chester Magistrates on the day of the trial and tu fined £456 and others were imposed upon him 346 pounds in court costs and victim surcharge.
The mum-of-three has now spoken out for the first time, saying: “I reported Mark because what he did was wrong. This is no way to treat people. In court, he said he had instructed a firm of solicitors about our divorce, but I didn’t know anything about it. I think it’s another one of his lies. He is a pathological liar. Hopefully, now that he’s been publicly shamed, he’ll learn his lesson».
Hayley and Mark met in 2010 in Southport, with him dating a friend of hers. Hayley, from Southport, Merseyside Englandsaid their relationship was a… whirlwind and they moved in together after a month.
She became pregnant with the couple’s first child in early 2012 and they married soon after in a lavish hotel wedding.
Hayley said: “I wore a white dress, with all the frills and decorations on it, in the shape of a cake and it was a beautiful day. I was madly in love.”
But after she became pregnant with their second child eight and a half years ago, she suspected something was wrong..
“I realized that Mark wasn’t always honest with me. I decided I couldn’t take it anymore,” he said.
Their son was born soon after, but Mark was not at the birth and only met him once, briefly, says Hayley. He stopped contact with Haley and their children and only sent some money.
Hayley said she struggled financially after Mark left and asked him for a divorce, but at the time he couldn’t afford it.
“I didn’t hear anything else,” he added. “There was no lawyer’s letter, as he told the court. That just wasn’t true. I didn’t get anything”.

Hayley thought she had lost touch with Mark for good – until a friend sent her a post from the Holiday Inn’s Facebook page showing her husband marrying another woman in February 2020.
“The photos were on the hotel page, not Mark’s page, which it looked like he was probably trying to hold onto it secret“, he said. “I felt very torn about it, but it was illegal so I went to the police. At first I was told I would have to testify, but Mark pleaded guilty just before the trial started, so I was able to go home. The judge told him to get a divorce, so at least now I’ll get what I want» he emphasized and concluded:
“I feel that Mark he slips away without consequence from his lies for too long. Now possibly to think about it twice».
Rowlands appeared before magistrates in June this year and was fined after pleading guilty to bigamy.
