Mike Shinoda member of the original formation of LinkinPark mentioned in an interview that he would not like the band to sound like a cover after the death of the singer Chester Bennington . In September this year, Emily Armstrong was announced as the band’s new vocalist.
In an interview with the radio station Alt 98.7 in Los Angeles, in the United States, Shinoda mentioned that they just want “Emily to be Emily” and the songs will be the songs. Afterwards, he remembered what he felt when he saw some cover bands that sounded like Chester, who passed away in 2017.
“There was a time in the beginning, like 2020, 2019, whatever — like, I remembered I was watching videos… I think a video of a cover band, a Linkin Park cover band, showed up in my feed. The fans were loving it. They were all, like, ‘Oh my God, this person is so good. They sound a lot like Chester.’”
In the chat, Shinoda also said that as cool as the covers were, he didn’t want that to happen to the band. “It makes me feel weird, it has to be different. That made me know immediately that it wasn’t the change for us,” he said.
In addition to the new vocalist, this year, the band also announced a new tour and a new album. Titled “From Zero”, the new album was released on November 15th, when the band performed in São Paulo. After two presentations, Emily Armstrong even used social media to declare herself to the country.
