The first game of the Mineiro Championship final may not be held at Mineirão.
The reason is a concert by country singer Gusttavo Lima. Due to “Buteco do Gusttavo Lima”, as the event is titled, the football stadium is already blocked on the date initially scheduled by the FMF (Federação Mineira de Futebol) for the first final of the Campeonato Mineiro.
According to a spokesperson for Minas Arena, the concessionaire responsible for the Mineirão, “Buteco do Gusttavo Lima” has already been scheduled for the stadium for over a year.
The event is seasonal and took place at Mineirão last year and before the pandemic.
Minas Arena explains that neither Atlético nor Cruzeiro have annual loyalty contracts with Mineirão, which would cause the dates to be blocked. Also according to the company, the Mineirão welcomes the biggest “buteco” of Gusttavo Lima’s tour. Last year, the event had more than 60,000 people.
The conflict of dates, however, will only happen if Atlético or Cruzeiro reach the finals of the Campeonato Mineiro. If there is a decision between two teams from the interior, for example, this will not be a problem, since the final would not be played at Mineirão anyway.
However, this has not happened since 2002, when Caldense, from Poços de Caldas, and Ipatinga, from the city of the same name, disputed the championship title. There is also a possibility that the final will have América Mineiro, who plays their matches at Independência.
Also according to the press office, since the Mineirão found out that the Mineiro final match was scheduled for the same date as “Buteco do Gusttavo Lima”, the Mineirão made contact with the clubs and also with the Mineira Federation, asking for a date change.
According to the concessionaire, this is a standard procedure, carried out not only in this final game, but in all events in which the same date conflict occurs, so that the game can be rescheduled;
If Atlético or Cruzeiro go to the final, therefore, for the first game to still take place in the Mineirão, the expectation is that the FMF will change the date of the game.
Contacted, the Clube do Galo reported that it still does not have an official position on the subject. Cruzeiro and the FMF have yet to comment.
