The singer Fagner will release in May an album of unpublished songs written by him and by secondhand at the time of the dictatorship and that ended up being retained by the Department of Political and Social OrderThe DOPS.
The album, which will be released by the Universal label, is composed of unpublished songs, including “Alazão”, written by Fagner, Belchior and another composer from Ceará, Fausto Nilo, and “Bolero in Portuguese”, which will have the participation of Ivete Sangalo. The singer frejatwho lent his studio for the recordings, also participates.
In addition to the new songs, the album will have the already recorded song “Contramão”, written by Belchior and sung by Fagner and cazuza.
“I remember that ‘Bolero in Portuguese’ was one of the last songs we did together, in the apartment where we lived, in Rio de Janeiro. We dedicate the lyrics to the singer Angela Maria”, said Fagner to the CNN.
“Belchior has a vast repertoire and I believe he will be remembered for a long time, especially because we live in a shortage of quality. I am proud of our history, and for that reason we are making an album in his honor”, said the musician.
All songs were found on National Archive by journalist and music researcher Renato Vieira. The songs were sent between 1971 and 1978 to the Public Entertainment Censorship Division, an organ at the time of the dictatorship responsible for analyzing artistic productions.
Fagner said that, after the songs were found, he received a message from his friend Marcelo Fróesin mid-August 2021, asking if he would be interested in recording Belchior’s songs.
Other songs were also found in the National Archives, such as “Posto em Sossego”, but, according to Fagner, they will not be recorded for this new album.
Belchior died on April 30, 2017, aged 70, in the city of Santa Cruz do Sul (RS), from an aortic aneurysm, the main artery of the human body.
