The assurance to Kyiv that Germany will support Ukraine “for as long as it takes” against the Russian attack was given by Chancellor Olaf Solz on the occasion of Ukraine’s national holiday.
“Germany stands firmly by Ukraine today and for as long as Ukraine needs our support,” the German chancellor said in a video posted on his Twitter account.
“We will continue to send weapons (…) and train Ukrainian soldiers in the use of European state-of-the-art weapons,” clarifies Olaf Solz, referring to the new arms shipments announced yesterday from Berlin.
“We will continue our sanctions, we will financially support Ukraine and we will help to rebuild the destroyed cities and villages”, assures the German chancellor, repeating the intention, expressed yesterday for the organization at the end of October in Berlin of an international conference on reconstruction of Ukraine.
“The blue and the yellow and the star of Europe are connected,” said Solz, referring to the flags of Ukraine and the European Union.
“Dear Ukrainians, your country will chase away the black shadow of war because it is strong and brave and because it has friends in Europe and around the world,” he concludes. “Slava Ukraini” (Glory to Ukraine).
Berlin announced yesterday that it will send weapons worth 500 million euros to Ukraine, including Iris-T air defense systems, auxiliary tanks, rocket launchers, ammunition and anti-drone systems.
