Smashing Pumpkins singer talks about birthmark: “I wanted to hide it”

Billy Corgan lead singer of the alternative rock band Smashing Pumpkins, took to social media to open up about his birthmark on his arm. “My whole life I have tried hard to hide it because, as you can imagine, I was mercilessly bullied as a child for it.”

The 57-year-old singer will perform with his bandmates in São Paulo and Brasília in November this year. On Instagram, he raised the flag of the “body positive” movement and encouraged fans to celebrate their bodies.

Among the photos posted, Corgan included an image of Carlotta Bertotti, an influencer with a birthmark on her face, and wrote: “As you see, here is a beautiful young woman with a birthmark. She has embraced her ‘difference’ with grace.”

The musician also detailed how people react to his brand: “People who have known me for a decade are shocked when they see it.”

“Strangers stop me on the street, not because they recognize me [como vocalista]but because they think there is something wrong with me that requires medical attention. In addition to the random questions: ‘Is this a burn?’, ‘Are you sick?’, ‘Is it contagious?’”.

Corgan ends the text by encouraging fans on the subject: “Whoever you are, I hope you find peace with who you are.” Check out the post below.
