Both MediaTek and Qualcomm are working on their flagship processors, which will form the basis of most of the top 2022 smartphones. The announcement of new platforms is still ahead, but their key characteristics have already become known thanks to the Chinese informant Digital Chat Station.
The source said that the South Korean company Samsung will be engaged in the production of the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 processor. It will be manufactured using a 4nm manufacturing process and will receive an eight-core CPU and an Adreno 730 graphics accelerator. The CPU will include a main core based on Cortex-X2 clocked at 3 GHz, three high-performance cores based on Cortex-A710 operating at a clock speed 2.5 GHz and four energy efficient Cortex-A510 cores @ 1.79 GHz.
As for the MediaTek Dimensity 2000, it will have an identical configuration as the Qualcomm chip, but a cluster of three high-performance cores will receive a higher clock speed – 2.85 GHz versus 2.5 GHz. The integrated graphics processor Mali-G710 MC10 will be responsible for graphics processing. The new flagship MediaTek platform will be built on the 4-nanometer process technology of the Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC.
The exact timing of the release of the flagship platforms Qualcomm and MediaTek is still unknown. But, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 is likely to be unveiled at the traditional Qualcomm annual summit in December 2021.
