Soltz: “The election result was bad – We cannot continue as if nothing happened”

We cannot continue as if nothing happened, Chancellor Olaf Solz said to his government partners, following the unfavorable result for the parties of the governing coalition in the European elections. He also announced a decision in June on whether or not to support Ursula von der Leyen to remain at the helm of the European Commission. “The point of reference for our work should now be to improve the climate in the run-up to the federal election,” Mr. Soltz said, admitting that “the election result was bad for all three governing parties.” The chancellor focused particularly on votes for far-right populist parties, both in Germany and in other countries. “We have to worry about that.
