German Chancellor Olaf Solz congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday after the current French president narrowly defeated his far-right rival Marine Le Pen in the French presidential election.
“French voters today sent a strong commitment to Europe. I’m glad we will continue our good cooperation!” said Soltz on Twitter.
All parties in the ruling coalition in Germany welcomed the forthcoming re-election of Emanuel Macron as President of France with satisfaction and relief.
“Certainly not a burden is falling on me alone,” wrote Agriculture Minister Cem Ezdemir (Greens) on Twitter. “Now we have to do everything in the European Union to ensure that the enemies of democracy / friends of Putin’s political power will never come so close again,” Ezdemir added in his post.
“Glory to God!” Wrote Liberals (FDP) Vice President Johannes Vogel on his personal account, while the Social Democratic Party (SPD) presidency wrote: “France has decided. For Europe and cohesion. Congratulations!”. “I dance!” writes the party’s co-chair, Saskia Esken.
