Solz meets activist freed in historic West-Russia prisoner swap

Olaf Solz met in Berlin with Russian-British Vladimir Kara-Murza, an activist and Kremlin opponent who was released from a Russian prison last month as part of a major prisoner swap between Moscow and the West. “I admire the strength and courage of Vladimir Kara-Murza and his tireless commitment to a democratic future for Russia,” the chancellor said in a post on X. “We secured his release during the prisoner exchange in August and today we had the opportunity to talk to each other for a longer period of time,” Soltz emphasized after his meeting with the Russian activist. Kara-Murza was among 26 prisoners from the US, Russia, Germany, Poland, Slovenia, Norway and Belarus released in early August in a major East-West swap.
