Sony introduced the electric car Vision-S 02 – with a mass of sensors and an autopilot

Perhaps many do not even remember, but exactly two years ago, Sony made a very unexpected presentation at CES 2022, showing the whole world the concept of its own electric car, Vision-S. Now it’s time to move on – the manufacturer has shown a conditional continuation in its line of electric vehicles called the Vision-S 02, which is a crossover SUV based on a two-year-old sedan. The Japanese giant simply put all modern electronics, cloud technology and other innovations in a new form factor, creating an electric car with a passenger compartment capacity of seven.

Innovation of mobility.

Naturally, this novelty was stuffed with various sensors to the limit – they are located throughout the body (including CMOS sensors and LiDAR), helping the driver in various problem situations and increasing the overall level of safety. And it is thanks to this electronics and cloud computing that the manufacturer plans to achieve autonomous driving of the second level and higher on public roads in Europe – tests in this direction are already underway. In addition, the car was equipped with a special Time-of-Flight sensor, which is responsible for driver authentication – this will likely reduce the risk of theft.

The electric car also supports a variety of voice commands and hand gestures, fulfilling the driver’s requirements without having to press buttons or operate a touch screen. And so that the car can be updated over the air and controlled remotely, Sony has equipped the new product with a 5G module for connecting to a new generation of cellular networks. At the same time, outwardly, the car looks quite attractive, stylish and laconic, although, of course, it should be borne in mind that we are talking about a prototype – if Sony still decides to bring the electric car to mass production, then a lot will have to be changed and redone.

And there are indeed plans for mass production – the first prototype of the Sony electric car has been tested in Europe for almost two years, and in the spring of 2022 a new subsidiary, Sony Mobility Inc., will be created, which will realize the ambitions of the Japanese giant in the electric car market.
