At least 22 young people were found dead at a popular nightclub in East London South Africawith police authorities investigating the causes of their deaths.
“Three of them died at the hospital and there are two who are being treated in a very critical condition”said the head of the security service of the provincial government Ueziu Tikana-Guxothiue.
Earlier, local police said they had been notified “That 17 young people were found dead inside a nightclub in Cinery Park, East London”noting that it has started research “on the death conditions” of these people aged 18 to 20 years.
A provincial health official ruled out the possibility that their deaths were due to panic or trampling. “It is difficult to believe that this is a trampling, because none of the victims have obvious scars”said Unathi Bincoze from the place where the incident took place.
According to the local newspaper DispatchLive, “The corpses were scattered, on the tables, on the chairs and on the floor”without “any obvious signs of injury”.
On social media, some have talked about the possibility of gas poisoning or mass poisoning.
The bodies will be transported to state morgues where relatives are expected to help identify the women and men who are dead, according to local health services, who said they would proceed immediately to autopsies to determine the possible causes of the young men’s deaths.
The local networks also broadcast images from the crowd of relatives and passers-by gathered around this nightclub in East London, a city of one million inhabitants located in the Indian Ocean, about 700 kilometers south of Johannesburg.
