S&P 500 Index opens modestly higher after Wednesday’s slide

  • The major Wall Street indices are trading in positive territory on Thursday.
  • Tech stocks rebound after suffering heavy losses on Wednesday.
  • The CBOE volatility index was down nearly 6% after the opening bell.

After falling sharply amid rising inflation fears on Wednesday, the main US stock indices they managed to open in positive territory on Thursday. Reflecting the improving market mood, the CBOE volatility index, Wall Street’s fear gauge, was down nearly 7% on the day.

Bond markets in the US will remain closed due to the Veterans Day holiday and action in the stock markets could remain subdued for the remainder of the day.

At time of writing, the S&P 500 Index was up 0.2% to 4,655, the Dow Jones Industrial Average changed little to 36,015, and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.6% to 15,728.

Among the top 11 sectors in the S&P 500, the risk-sensitive tech index has risen 0.5% after Wednesday’s slide. On the other hand, the defensive Real Estate Index lost 0.3%.
