the government of São Paulo announced this Tuesday (16) an investment of BRL 3 million to speed up the arrival of coverage 5G to 645 municipalities in São Paulo. The Conecta São Paulo Program encourages city halls to modernize local antenna legislation to the new technology.
The launch featured a demonstration of the 5G network in various spheres of daily life, such as healthcare, urban organization, industry, agriculture and transport. The technology is an evolution of the 4G network and will allow faster connections, enabling smart city and object applications.
The program foresees that municipal managers will have technical support to update local antenna laws. According to the state government, the telecommunications sector estimates the need for initial investments of around R$ 4 billion in infrastructure in São Paulo alone. The proposal will be approved by the Legislative Assembly.
During launch, the governor João Doria highlighted that the new technology allows wide use and practices that are beneficial to citizens, “from the most remote rural area of the state of São Paulo to the large urban centers”.

O 5G auction, to select operators of connectivity services using the fifth generation of mobile telephony, took place at the beginning of the month. According to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), R$ 47.2 billion were collected. The value was below the R$ 50 billion initially foreseen by the government, as not all lots were sold.
