SP records lowest maximum temperature for May in 61 years

After temperatures plummeted in the city of São Paulo, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) reported that the maximum temperature of 12.6ºC recorded this Wednesday (18) is the lowest since 1961.

The icy wind, with moderate to strong intensity, took the thermal sensation in the capital to below 0ºC. Anyone who passed through the neighborhood of Perus, in the North zone, may have felt the lowest temperature of the day: 11.5ºC, confirmed the city hall.

In the face of low temperatures, the Sé Cathedral, in the center of the capital of São Paulo, in partnership with Father Júlio Lancelotti, opened its doors to receive homeless people.

In addition to the shelter, the Church is receiving donations of blankets and warm clothes to be destined for the most vulnerable.

Based on meteorological information from the CGE, the Municipal Civil Defense Coordination (COMDEC) decreed Maximum Alert for low temperature at 11 am last Monday (16).

Over the next few hours, the constant gusts of wind should intensify the feeling of cold, while the temperature drops significantly again as night falls.

Weather forecast

Thursday (19) should start with thermometers close to 7°C. In the afternoon, the temperature can reach 16°C, with a lower thermal sensation, due to the winds.

On Friday (20), the sun appears between clouds and the cold continues, with a minimum of 8°C and a maximum of 17°C.
