The city of São Paulo recorded three fatal accidents involving buses in just over a week this year. Last Tuesday (31), a woman and an elderly man were the most recent victims of the collectives.
On Sunday (22), the cyclist Rafael Xavier de Mesquita was run over by a bus in the east zone of the capital of São Paulo while traveling calmly over a crosswalk. He was taken to the hospital, but died two days later.
On Tuesday morning, an 82-year-old man died after being hit by a bus in Sapopemba, also on the east side of the city. According to the Secretariat of Public Security of São Paulo (SSP), he would have tripped on the sidewalk before being hit by the vehicle.
That same morning, this time in the west zone of São Paulo, another bus ran over a woman who was crossing a crosswalk near an intersection.
In a statement, SPTrans – responsible for buses in the capital of São Paulo – reported that the drivers who ran over pedestrians on Tuesday were removed from their duties. The driver who ran over the cyclist in the east zone was fired and had his registration withdrawn from the company.
