Spanish cities hit by deadly floods brace for another fierce storm

Flood-hit towns near Valencia in eastern Spain are scrambling today to clear sewage systems of mud and debris, deploy sandbags and cancel school classes as they brace for another storm approaching region. Two weeks after the worst floods in Spain’s modern history killed more than 200 people, Spain’s weather service AEMET issued an orange alert, the second highest, for heavy or torrential rain expected in the same area tomorrow. AEMET predicts at least 120mm of rain will fall in 12 hours. While the storm is not expected to be as severe, it could prove devastating for cities trying to recover.
