As he noted, during the press conference he gave after its completion Meeting of the Ministers of Defense in Brussels, this issue was not discussed during the meeting.
He noted, however, that “defense procurement is a national decision”. On the other hand, Mr. Stoltenberg stressed that what is important for the Alliance is for the systems to be interoperable, which is not the case with the S-400.
“This is the message,” the secretary-general said, adding that NATO could support efforts to find alternative systems “And this work continues.”
It is reminded that the Turkey-US ties have been hit, when Washington imposed sanctions in the Turkish defense industry regarding S-400s. It also expelled Ankara from its jet program F-35, in which she was a buyer and a manufacturer.
