Attracting digital nomads is one of the immediate priorities of the national tourism strategy.
“We want digital nomads, they support off-season tourism,” said today the Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, in the context of the conference “Greek Tourism, a National Cause! Opportunities and Prospects”, announcing the launch of the “Digital Nomads” initiative.
In this direction, as he said, collaborations are being developed with private companies, first with Wind, for better internet connection packages, but also with the local government for accommodation, shops, etc., so that the digital nomads can “organize their lives”. better”.
The program, the minister revealed, will be launched on a pilot basis from Ermoupolis, Heraklion and Kalamata, with the aim of expanding it throughout the country, through “tools” of digitization.
Fast and reliable internet
Speaking at the same conference, the Secretary General of Telecommunications and Posts, Athanasios Staveris, referred to the effort to attract digital nomads through the provision of fast and reliable internet.
The solution to this, said Mr. Staveris, is a mix of terrestrial and satellite infrastructure, which “can provide connectivity anywhere, anytime and with anything.”
In this context, it focused on the recent decision of the Deputy Ministers of Digital Government and Environment and Energy, which updates the special procedure for licensing, installation of standard antenna constructions and the introduction of a new regulatory framework for the installation of antennas that meet specific safety standards.
Thus, according to the Secretary General, companies are given the opportunity to provide consumers with internet via satellite, ensuring a stable connection at high speeds and with a low response time.
“As General Secretariat, we have already tested pilot solutions for satellite internet, using our own assets, hellas sat 4, with extremely impressive results,” continued Mr. Staveris.
As he explained, digital nomads will be able to choose the area in which they want to settle, no matter how remote it is, because they will be able to work with high and reliable internet speeds.
