The study that will enable the release of outdoor masks for the entire country will be completed by the Ministry of Health by Friday (12). The announcement with detailed rules will be made next week.
Sources linked to the ministry informed the CNN that the definition of the guidelines is well advanced. The request for an opinion on the feasibility of the measure was made by President Jair Bolsonaro in June this year.
This Wednesday (10), technicians from the folder will meet to discuss the matter. Sources already confirm that the guidelines for the release of masks will consider the percentage of vaccination, the rate of transmission and occupancy of beds.
CNN found that the technicians are betting on stricter rules than those adopted by cities that have already allowed the use of the mask or set a date for it — with the difference between the minimum percentages required for vaccination with first and second doses. The initial suggestion is that 90% of the population is immunized with the second dose and 70% with the first.
Although the criteria have been under analysis for five months, the ministry held back the publication of the rules for fear that the population would disrespect the criteria ahead of time and contravene the foreseen rules.
Therefore, technicians want the advertisement to be fixed in a technical standard, with the explanation that the prerogative to decide on the matter belongs to the municipalities.
