Sudanese Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok said today that the political agreement he signed with his army gave him complete freedom to form a technocratic government, Al Jazeera television reported.
“We have agreed to hold elections before July 2023,” Abdallah Hamdock was quoted as saying by Al Jazeera.
Earlier, the Sudanese army ousted Hamdock as prime minister and pledged to release all political prisoners following weeks of bloody riots following the coup and despite large crowds taking to the streets rejecting any agreement with the army.
Under an agreement signed with Army Chief of Staff General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Abdallah Hamdok will lead a political technocrat government for the transition period.
The agreement is opposed by democratic organizations, outraged by the deaths of dozens of protesters since the October 25 coup, who have called for full political rule in Sudan following the ouster of Omar al-Bashir during the 2019 uprising.
