The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a warning of intense rain and storms for 13 states in Brazil, this Monday (18). In addition to the heavy rain, the heat wave continues in at least three states: São Paulo, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul.
The total volume of rain can reach 100 mm, with winds of up to 100 km/h and the risk of electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges, according to the institute.
The states that will be affected are:

- Maranhão
- Mato Grosso
- Mato Grosso do Sul
- For
- Paraná
- Piauí
- Rio Grande do Sul
- Rondônia
- Santa Catarina
- Tocantins
In case of gusts of wind, the institute warns of:
- Do not take shelter under trees, as there is a risk of falling and electrical shocks.
- Do not park vehicles near transmission towers and advertising signs.
- If possible, turn off electrical appliances and the general power supply.
Inmet also issued a red alert (of great danger) for the states of São Paulo and Paraná. by excessive heat. The warning says that there may be a “risk to health” due to a temperature 5ºC above average for a period longer than 5 days.
