Superfund: For the first time, Greece is among the fastest growing countries in the sustainability strategy

The performance of Greece, in terms of the sustainable development strategy, is recognized as – for the first time – our country is included in the list of countries with the fastest growth, in terms of the correct management of state funds with ESG criteria, related to the environment, society and corporate governance (Environmental, Social and Governance). This is an important achievement of our country, as it was led to the highest positions of the list, due to the response shown by the Superfund to adopt sustainability criteria in the management of public property.

In particular, Greece took 28th place and a GSR Rating of 60%, among 100 countries participating in the GSR 2022 Scoreboard, which assesses the progress of Governance, Sustainability & Resilience of State -Owned Investors) of Public Investment Funds and Public Pension Funds around the world.

The recognition of Greece demonstrates the role of the Superfund in the proper management of public property. From 2021 the Superfund is an active member of OPSWF (One Planet Sovereign Wealth Funds), where, together with other leading global Public Investment Funds, they aim to accelerate the transition to a sustainable low-carbon economy. At the same time, it rewards the continuous development of the Superfund in matters of corporate governance and transparency.

The GSR Scoreboard is a “barometer” that evaluates best practices, with strict and unbiased criteria. From this year’s assessment, it emerged that mainstream investors are making an effort to become more transparent and sustainable, however, resilience is still an evolving concept that will be tested again in the current economic environment.

The percentage of 60% results from the correlation of the GSR at the national level, among other parameters, and with the credit rating for the public debt, as measured by the organizations Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s and Fitch Ratings, which alphanumerically rated the Greece with BB/BA2, (in rating range from D to AAA). This evaluation by the three leading providers of transparent and independent evaluations in capital and commodity markets worldwide, is equivalent to an extremely important recognition for attracting prospective investors to our country.
