Late this Wednesday afternoon (29), the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police arrested the man suspected of killing his ex-partner, Cristiane dos Anjos Barbosa, 30, while she was breastfeeding one of the couple’s children, a girl just 3 months.
Leandro Santos Dias was hiding in a community in Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense, when he was captured by agents from the Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station (DHBF).
To the police, the suspect said he regretted the crime. A 38-caliber revolver was seized from him, which was possibly used in the femicide.
As he was shot in the back, Leandro was taken to Saracuruna Hospital. When he leaves the unit, he will be at the disposal of the Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (Seap).
According to the Civil Police, it is not yet known who fired the shot that hit the suspect and under what circumstances it happened. He has a criminal record for threats, illegal possession of a firearm and robbery.
Death of ex-partner
The feminicide took place last Tuesday (28), in São João de Meriti, also in Baixada. According to the victim’s father, Cristiane had been kicked out of the house by her partner and had been living with him for two weeks.
The witness told the police that he went out to pick up one of his granddaughters from school, when he received a call from his ex-son-in-law confessing that he had just killed Cristiane. Leandro also allegedly threatened his father-in-law and mother-in-law with death. Upon arriving home, Cristiane’s father found his daughter’s body.
In addition to the baby, the couple had three more children, aged 10, 5 and 2. Neighbors told investigators that the relationship involved many fights and attacks. So much so that the victim had already registered a threat in 2012. Cristiane, however, always said that she believed Leandro would change.
