Suzano raises investment in 2023 to R$18.5 billion

The largest eucalyptus pulp manufacturer in the world, Suzano, announced this Thursday (1st) an investment estimate of BRL 18.5 billion for next year, above the BRL 16.1 billion forecast for 2022.

“The increase compared to 2022 is due, in large part, to the greater investment in the Cerrado Project, considering industrial, forestry, infrastructure and logistics investments”, said Suzano in a material fact.

Of the total to be invested by Suzano in 2023, BRL 8.9 billion will be devoted to Projeto Cerrado, the new pulp mill that the company is building in Mato Grosso do Sul and which will have a capacity of 2.55 million tons per year , a 20% increase in the company’s production.

Another R$ 2.4 billion will be used in land and forests, a figure that includes the second installment of the purchase of Parkia, completed in June. Suzano stated that this total also “includes investments aimed at greater competitiveness and/or optionality for the company’s growth in the long term”.

The company budgeted BRL 6.4 billion for maintenance in 2023, an increase compared to the BRL 5.5 billion forecast for this year.

“The higher expenditure compared to the previous year is mainly due to the effect of inflation, mainly on forestry investments, and greater intensity of projects and services at industrial plants, due to the greater number of general stops scheduled for maintenance”, said Suzano .
