Synology has announced the launch of the RT6600ax router, which is expected to ship in the first quarter of next year. It will be one of the first routers to support the UNII-4 WiFi band, also known as the 5.9 GHz band.

UNII-4 is an extension to the 802.11ax / WiFi 6 range, unrelated to the WiFi 6E standard, which uses the 6 GHz band. UNII-4 adds only four 20 MHz WiFi channels, but the main thing is that it allows you to use a third channel with a width of 160 MHz, which can be convenient under heavy load. At the moment, UNII-4 will only be used in the US, although other countries may also consider opening additional frequencies for Wi-Fi use.

Of course, the RT6600ax will also work in the more familiar 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The device is equipped with a 2.5 GbE port, which can be used for LAN or WAN. In addition, there are four Gigabit Ethernet ports (three LANs and one WAN) and a USB 3.0 port.
