SYRIZA: Early elections and the ‘smudge’ of toxicity

The “sphere” of the elections came out of the booth in the public debate, after the interview of Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Capital.gr. This has been received by Koumoundourou, who on the one hand feels justified by the estimates that after August 15 the prime minister will call elections, on the other hand she is still “weighing” the echo of the elections, with findings from statements by government officials that the last 24 “lower” the issue of the autumn ballot box.

Elections

They do not find the “business” brake on ecology reassuring, nor do they consider their announcement certain, as there are factors that do not allow for “straightforward” developments and planning for the government. As, say, the escalation of Turkish aggression.

Nevertheless, they have now abandoned the “zucchini” of the election date. “It does not matter if Kyriakos Mitsotakis does it early. It matters that we must be ready in all fields”, said, in support of this, a top party official in “K”, pointing to high pre-election turns for the party: Organization and counterattack.

Toxicity

In the invocation of “toxicity” by the Prime Minister as a parameter that could make necessary an early recourse to the polls, Koumoundourou “sees” an attempt to incriminate the opposition in general and SYRIZA in particular, in order to have an alibi for Kyriakos Mitsotakis to appeal to the polls. , without having to justify his change of attitude in relation to assurances that the government will run out of four years.

They do not accept the “smudge” of toxicity as such an alibi. On the contrary, however, it gives them “points” politically to interpret the allegation of “toxicity” as a “fear” of the government that SYRIZA is (or may become) much more militant than its polls.

In the event that the prime minister does not finally choose to go to the polls in the fall, then SYRIZA has the “fire” ready. In any case, whether the polls are set in September or not, Koumoundourou will operate at very high opposition decibels for the entire period until the elections, even if (not very likely) they are actually held in the second half of 2023.

SYRIZA has already raised the issue of “where did you come from” and the high borrowing of N.D. executives. and the government, polarizing the climate with the N.D. in all aspects of political dialogue. The ruling party has neither left nor will leave it at that: There is nothing wrong with that, that is exactly what we mean when we talk about toxicity.

The continuation on this in the coming days, as from Koumoundourou they say that they will continue to push – and communicatively – in this direction.

Technocrats

The major thing for SYRIZA is the preparation of ballots in order to improve – and in the polls where the prime minister is dramatically lagging behind – the image of his credibility and managerial ability.

The ballots will not be announced, not even through “leaks”, before the end of July: Svigkou, Vassiliadis and Kalogirou are “scanning” candidacies, but nothing beyond that. The “surprises” for the people who will signal enlargement, political and technocratic competence, will be announced by Alexis Tsipras himself and this only after the announcement of the elections and not earlier.

Beyond that, it is a given that the search for new candidates will largely be done by the think tank of the technocrats of Alexis Tsipras. There are impressive biographies among the presidential think tank, some with international parchments, which the SYRIZA president would obviously like to appear on the party’s ballots (eg Gerotziafas, Iliopoulos, Farantouris).

In the next period, the events of SYRIZA will increase for the reception of the “new members”, where executives who were not enthusiastic about exactly the way the enlargement took place (such as, for example, executives of “Umbrella”) also participate.

They do not intend, however, to give N.D. for the exploitation of internal party charges, hence the internal party disagreements and “parasites” in the central line of SYRIZA have undoubtedly been completely silenced.

It is indicative that Koumoundourou as a whole supported Euclid Tsakalotos for his statement about cooperation with G. Varoufakis, de-dramatizing its significance and leaving suspicions about … provocation: “Euclid repeated the line of SYRIZA: We address all progressives without exclusions, but on a specific program basis “.
