This is a true Taylors tale, as the actor’s wife Taylor Lautner (Jacob from the “Twilight” saga), taylor dome was shocked by him talking about Taylor Swift and Kanye West’s infamous moment at the 2009 Video Music Awards (VMA).
In a video from his podcast “The Squeeze” posted Wednesday on TikTok, Dome asked Lautner, “If you could go back to a moment in your life, what moment would it be and what would you say to yourself?”
“Probably at the 2009 VMAs when I handed Taylor the award and I didn’t know the Kanye thing wasn’t a joke,” he said, causing his Dome to literally fall over in surprise and say, “I’m shocked.”
West, who now goes by “Ye,” took the stage and interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech to announce, “I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time!”
Dome pointed out that Lautner and Swift, who dated briefly in 2009, had just gone public with their then-relationship.
Lautner explained that he was the one who handed Swift the award and “took five steps back and was five feet behind her” when West jumped onto the stage as she spoke.
“I can barely hear. I can’t see them,” Lautner said..
“I assumed it was all a prank practiced and rehearsed, why would Kanye West be jumping on stage interrupting Taylor Swift? It just didn’t make sense.”
It wasn’t until Swift turned around and he could see her face that he realized it hadn’t been planned, Lautner said.
In 2016, Lautner confirmed that he was the inspiration for Swift’s 2010 song, “Back to December” .
He and Dome got married last year.
