Taylor Swift performed her second performance of “The Eras Tour” at Engenhão last Sunday (19).
Without mentioning the death of two fans in the previous days, the singer performed in front of more than 60 thousand people at the stadium, this time, with the thermometers showing significantly lower temperatures.
On the first night of Taylor Swift’s tour in Rio, on Friday (17), Ana Clara Benevides, 23, fell ill and died after being taken to the hospital.
The tragedy led the federal government to order the producer of the T4F event to guarantee access to water in all of the singer’s performances in Brazil and to issue an ordinance allowing the entry of water bottles into all shows from that moment on.
Another fan of the singer, Gabriel Mongenot Santana Milhomem Santos, aged 25, was stabbed to death during a robbery, on Copacabana Beach, in Zona Zul of Rio de Janeiro, in the early hours of the 19th.
He and his friends would enjoy the tourist attractions in Rio de Janeiro while waiting for the show date. The group would go to the performance on Sunday.
Postponement and new rules
The singer announced the postponement of her performance on Saturday (18) just two hours before she was due to take the stage, which angered fans who had already made the journey to the stadium, some coming from different cities and even countries.
Before the show began, fans were apprehensive following the previous night’s postponement, but hoped the show would go ahead. “Expectations are high. It was canceled yesterday, I was a little worried about it happening today, but I hope everything goes well. Today it’s not hot, it’s cool, expectations are high for everything to go well”, said Iasmin Moreira Oliveira, in front of vendors offering umbrellas and raincoats in light of the rain forecast.
This Sunday, T4F reported that it had postponed the start of Taylor Swift’s shows in Rio by one hour and published the refund rules for those who are unable to attend the postponed event, which takes place this Monday (20).
According to a note from the producer, the special action plan was reinforced for Sunday’s show, especially the provision of free water in the queues and at all accesses and entrances to the stadium and inside.
New free water distribution points were made available to the public during the event and entry into the stadium was permitted with sealed glasses of water and sealed processed food, with no limitation on items per person.
Flexible plastic bottles will also be authorized for access. Any other material such as metal, aluminum and thermos bottles is prohibited.
T4F highlighted that the ban on the entry of water bottles into stadiums follows a requirement made by public bodies, and the permission for the entry of flexible plastic bottles took place on November 18, 2023.
“We also clarify that we do not sell drinks and food, which is the responsibility of the stadium administration. The service staff has been reinforced.”, stated the producer in the note.
Around 200 extra employees will join the 1,230 professionals who have been working on the event since the beginning, including security guards, brigade members, audience advisors and others. Furthermore, the medical care structure was reinforced, totaling 08 available medical stations, 08 ambulances and 08 mobile ICUs.
