A Physical Education teacher immobilized and interrupted a knife attack at the Thomazia Montoro State School, in the west zone of São Paulo, this Monday morning (27).
Footage from a security camera shows the moment the teacher approaches the attacker, a 13-year-old student, as he stabs another woman in a classroom.
Upon noticing the attack, the teacher grabs the student by the neck and pulls him away from the victim. Then she enlists the help of another woman to disarm the attacker.
The teacher’s action was described as “heroic” by the Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo, Guilherme Derrite.
A 71-year-old teacher, identified as Elisabete Tenreiro, was killed during the attack. Three other teachers and four students were also injured. They are not life-threatening, according to Derrite.
