Telepass, UnipolMove, MooneyGo: the comparison of offers for electronic toll collection on the motorway

The increases in motorway tolls, which started last January on almost all concessions, cannot be ignored. Only Autostrade per l’Italia, which manages 50% of the toll network, has been recognized with an increase of 3.34% for 2023 (+2% from January 1st and +1.34% from July 1st) while for 2024 the increases are 2.3%.

On electronic toll collection servicesto avoid queues at the toll booths, something can be done. Especially now that, after years of monopoly, Telepass has been joined by two other offers: that of UnipolMove and that of Mooney Go. It must be said immediately that the bulk of the choice falls on the prices rather than on the services included (or rather, intermediated) and on the versatility subscription plans. So a lot depends on the needs of each driver. Let’s look at them in detail.

Activation

Telepass can be activated online, on the official website, but also in many physical stores, from Punti Blu to bank counters, post offices and Eni petrol stations. In this sense, rooting offers an advantageous condition to the historic teletoll operator. MooneyGo and UnipolMove can instead be subscribed to online channels (website and app) and respectively in MooneyGo stores and UnipolSai agencies.

Number of license plates that can be associated

Telepass offers the possibility of associating two plates per devicewith simple addition, deletion or modification via app. MooneyGo also allows twobut to manage them you need to contact customer service while UnipolMove accepts only one license plate which can however be changed at any time

Offered services

Telepasswhich has also activated a separate subscription called Telepass Plus, offers by far the most extensive number of services that can be used through the app. They range from the Area C of Milan, also shared by its competitors, to the reserved lanes for ferries crossing the Strait of Messina, to skypasses, ATM tickets, affiliated parking lots (like many in airports including the multi-storey ones at Rome Fiumicino), blue stripes, stamp duty, train, plane and Itabus tickets. And also taxis, sharing services, home car washing (even if it doesn’t work everywhere), Venezia Pass, vignettes for some European countries and PagoPA payments.

UnipolMove in addition to Area C, it offers intermediation with affiliated car parks, petrol stations, taxis, PagoPA, car and motorbike tax, bulletins and skypass.

Mooney Go Instead, it allows you to pay for ferries on the Messina Strait, affiliated parking, public transport, train and bus tickets, taxis, sharing services and blue stripes.

Overall, in short, all the platforms, to varying degrees, offer much more than priority at motorway toll booths with a monthly charge, but have transformed themselves into platforms for mobility services.

Costs

The rates must be divided into flat And pay per use. That is, with a fixed subscription or for one-time use only

The most complex offer is that of Telepass. For plan subscription Base there is free access for the first 12 months (free device, not free highway tolls, of course), then 3.90 euros per month (+2.88 euros per month for the second device).

Telepass Plus It is the most complete offer, which includes all the services listed above, and is free for a year and then costs 4.90 euros per month (+2.88 euros per month for any second device).

Telepass Next It is instead a recent innovation, which consists of a smart device to be installed in the workshop and able to locate the nearest affiliated service stations, detect and activate the payment of blue stripes, geolocate the car in case of theft or simply forgetting the parking space and open the gate of the house with the intermediation of the app1 Control and costs 35 euros for installation plus 5 euros per month. Only Plus subscribers can subscribe to it.

In the pay-per-use system, however, Telepass costs 10 euros for activation and 2.50 euros per month, only if you use the device.

UnipolMove Base it’s free for the first 12 months, then it costs 1.50 euros per month (+1 euro per month for the second device). Pay-per-use costs 5 euros for activation and 50 cents per day for each day of use.
