A group of ten orcas arrived very close to Prainha inlet, in Arraial do Cabo, in the Lagos region of Rio de Janeiro, as can be seen in the images taken by the company Drone Adventures Brazil.
Members of the dolphin family, but larger and with super predator characteristics, these cetaceans usually frequent the region’s waters at this time of year.
What was unprecedented this time was the proximity to bathers, recorded on Wednesday afternoon (24).
There were nine orcas from the same family, including adults, young and young, and a male named Admiral, the largest who joined the group. Cetaceans hunted stingrays.
Last week, during a Federal Police inspection of the Marine Extractive Reserve of Arraial do Cabo, the group was seen attacking a humpback whale, which died.
Arraial do Cabo is considered one of the best diving spots in Brazil.
There, a rare event occurs, known as upwelling, which causes very deep water to reach the surface. The current brings with it an enormous amount of food and very cold, transparent and blue waters.
The phenomenon attracts a large amount and variety of marine life to the region.
