The 50-year-old mystery of the frozen man found in a cave has finally been solved. The remains of the missing person have been identified by the Berks County Medical Examiner’s Office as those of Nicholas Paul Grubb, a 27-year-old man from Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Grubb had long been known as “Pinnacle man,” a nickname that referred to the Appalachian mountain peak near where two hikers discovered his body on Jan. 16, 1977. An autopsy at the time found no signs of assault, and authorities they ruled that he died of a drug overdose, the New York Times reports. However, he could not be identified from his appearance, belongings, clothing or dental records, not even from fingerprints collected during the examination, leaving investigators with only a sketch.
