The agricultural organizations will take the tractors to the street “as soon as the pandemic allows it”

The representative organizations of the agricultural sector of Andalusia –Asaja, COAG, UPA and Cooperativas Agro-alimentary – have announced that they will take the tractors to the street “as soon as the pandemic allows it.”

They did so after holding a meeting with the Secretary General of Agriculture and Food of the Ministry of the sector, Fernando Miranda, and the delegate of the Government of Spain in Andalusia, Sandra García, in which the representatives of the department of Minister Luis Planas ( PSOE).

In the same they have defended their position on the convergence of the aid of the Common Agrarian Policy (PAC) and the approach on the future national distribution of the funds.

At the insistence by the Ministry of being consistent with the Royal Decree of transition of aid from the PAC, published on January 27 in the Official State Gazette (BOE), agricultural organizations and cooperatives they emphasize their refusal to “a non-consensual and accelerated process.

They say that directly attacks the main agrarian region of Spain (Andalusia), to a diverse, productive and wealth-generating model in the territory “.
Likewise, they regret that Luis Planas himself was not in charge of defending their proposals in front of the representatives of the sector, to whom the allegations presented in September were not admitted either.

the cap

The proposals of the Ministry on the transition of the CAP “are not coherent with the fact that 34% of the recipients of PAC aid in the national group are Andalusian nor with 37% of the agricultural Gross Added Value (GVA) that represents Andalusia in the economy of Spain “, lament the farmers.

For this reason, Asaja, COAG, UPA and Cooperativas Agro-alimentary de AndalucÃa maintain that if the Royal Decree is not withdrawn, once the health situation allows it, the tractors will go out to the streets again to demand “a fair CAP” with the Andalusian agri-food sector.

Regarding the national distribution of funds, they criticize that the Ministry persists in its idea of eliminating historical rights, reducing the number of producing regions and promoting a flat rate model.

This proposal will result in the loss of around 50% of the 1,300 million euros currently received, between basic payment and green payment, by the more than 232,000 Andalusian recipients, according to data managed by the signatory organizations.

Thus, farmers urge Minister Planas to sit “face to face” with representatives from the Andalusian agri-food sector, to withdraw the transitional Royal Decree without delay and to work on a national strategic plan that allows “to comply with European guidelines, but respecting our productive diversity”
