From his side, China’s President Xi Jinping called for an “international peace conference” to resolve the conflict between Israel and Hamas. “There can be no lasting peace and security in the Middle East without a just solution to the Palestine issue,” the Chinese president stressed and called for “the organization of an international peace conference as soon as possible” in order to achieve “international consensus.” This conference will make it possible to “work towards a rapid solution to the Palestinian issue that is comprehensive, just and sustainable,” he added, while calling for an immediate ceasefire and the “release of civilian hostages.” “All parties to the conflict must immediately cease fire and hostilities, end all forms of violence and attacks targeting civilians and release civilian prisoners in order to avoid further loss of life and further suffering,” it said. “Since the outbreak of the latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict, China has been actively promoting peace talks and a ceasefire,” Xi noted, adding that Beijing “has been providing humanitarian aid to relieve the suffering of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza” and will continue to do it.
