The budget model from Samsung was more popular than any smartphone in the world

Analysts from research company Omdia named the best-selling smartphones in 2021. The top ten most popular models in the world included devices from three brands, moreover, the rating was topped not by any flagship, but by one of the most budget smartphones on the market.

According to Omdia, the best-selling smartphone in 2021 was the Samsung Galaxy A12. This entry-level model sold over 51.8 million units in 12 months last year. Its average cost is only 160 dollars. The second place in the list of the best-selling models of last year went to the iPhone 12, released in 2020, with sales of 41.7 million units and an average selling price of $851. In third place is the iPhone 13. Apple’s current flagship base unit sold 34.9 million units last year at an average price of $962. It is followed by the iPhone 11 with sales of 33.6 million units and an average price of $604.

The fifth most popular smartphone on the market today is the ultra-budget Redmi 9A. With an average price of just $78, this model, produced by a subsidiary brand of the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, has sold 26.8 million copies. It is followed by four more Apple smartphones. These are the iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro with annual sales of 26.1 million, 24.1 million, 21.2 million and 19.4 million units, respectively.

Rounding out the top ten best-selling smartphones of 2021 is another budget Samsung smartphone, the Galaxy A02. It costs $138 and boasts annual sales of 18.3 million units.
