The Castellón cattle ranching joins PSPV in its ‘fight’ with Compromís for aid

The livestock sector of wild cattle has added a new ally to his side in the struggle he maintains with the Ministry of Agriculture, led by CompromÃs through the regional minister Mireia MollÃ. These are the Socialists, specifically, the PSPV Parliamentary Group in the Corts Valencianes, which this past Friday presented a Non-Law Proposal for debate in Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Commission. Specifically, the Socialists ask this department to support the wild cattle sector in the maintenance, veterinary care and feeding of the show bovine of the Valencian Community, seriously affected by the Covid-19 crisis. Both the Federation of Bullfighting Peas as the Livestock Association of Bulls in the Street of the community they applaud this alliance with the Socialists.

The text of the proposal explains that the bravo cattle herds, for exhibition, are one of the sectors that are experiencing the worst through this crisis as a result of the stoppage of the season of the festivities scheduled in 2020 that, still In addition to the expectations for this next season, an absolutely worrying panorama is looming, which will again cause a significant surplus of wild cattle in the field and whose neglect due to lack of resources will undoubtedly trigger hundreds of cattle, as happened in 2020, end up in the slaughterhouse. Not only that, but, to avoid that sad ending, they have to continue to be fed and also, they must continue to receive the necessary veterinary care, a disbursement that only intensifies the precarious situation of the sector », lament from PSPV in the explanatory memorandum.

Furthermore, in the opinion of PSPV, the aforementioned health crisis will continue to prevent the compensation of investments made, because in the current circumstances the foreseeable benefits obtained by the spring festivities will be non-existent.

Over the last few months, administrations have mobilized  «a significant amount of resources to mitigate the negative effects on the economy as much as possible. A proof of this was the creation of a line of aid, by the Department of Agriculture, with an amount of 4 million euros Aimed at alleviating the difficulties caused by the stoppage of activity in livestock farms, with the exception of those of wild bovine, in order to achieve the maintenance of its activity, “recalls PSPV. Of these aids, the bravo livestock sector was excluded. Both the Federation and the aforementioned Association regretted feeling “discriminated against” by the Ministry, considering that “political” reasons had an influence.

The Generalitat confirmed on January 13 the creation, together with the three presidents of the provincial councils and the mayors of the municipalities of Valencia, Alicante, Castellón and Elche, of a Covid-19 special cooperation fund endowed with 120 million euros for the sectors most affected by the pandemic.

This fund, as explained, will support the activity of the hotel industry, catering, nightlife, recreational activities, cultural activities, and travel agencies, since they are activities that present a worse situation, based on a report made by the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie),  «without referring to brave livestock», denounces the Socialist Parliamentary Group in its proposal.

Therefore, in the opinion of PSPV, Â «it is evident that also the herds of wild cattle in the Valencian Community are being affected in a very negative way by the adverse consequences that Covid-19 is causing on the fabric generally economical, ‘but for the moment the Generalitat Valenciana is not involving this sector of its different aid plans.

Be that as it may, Proposition No Law -endorsed by deputy David Calvo and deputy spokesperson Sabina Escrig- urges the Conselleria de Mollà to design and implement a specific plan of aid to herds of wild cattle to continue feeding the animals and providing the necessary health care through the general framework of direct aid, such and as carried out by said department for sectors affected by the Covid-19 crisis during the year 2020, including and precisely that of livestock. They also ask the Ministry to facilitate access to by-products, communal pastures and other basic needs of the wild cattle.

It should be remembered that the herds of wild cattle, has already published, stopped earning 3 million euros in 2020 and they lost 30 percent of their wild cattle, the ranchers being forced to slaughter or sell 2,000 animals, due to the impossibility of keeping them.
