The developers of the popular client for Ethereum OpenEthereum announced the complete cessation of work on the project due to the imminent transition of the network of the second cryptocurrency to the PoS algorithm.
In a series of Twitter posts, the developers presented a brief history of the client, which began back in 2015 under the name Parity. As the statement notes, “the OpenEthereum codebase is now 7 years old and increasingly difficult to maintain and manage.”
“The software repository has been moved to the archive, all support and software updates have been discontinued. The transition to PoS is approaching,” – write developers.
The OpenEthereum team noted that now is the right time to end support for the client. The usefulness of this software has exhausted itself, and the developers are looking forward to the “next stage – a clean, green and scalable blockchain infrastructure.”
Earlier, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and several other developers confirmed that the transition to the new Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism could take place as early as August this year.
